During the second half of the 19th century, manufacturers of luxury luggage, such as Louis Vuitton, created the cabin trunk in order to be able to slide it under the bed in travel cabins of boats or trains.Main goal was to save space.
This very nice orange canvas Louis Vuitton steamer trunk, features Louis Vuitton stamped solid brass lock, clasps as well as all its studs. Beautiful and rich chocolate color leather trim and handles. Unusual and elegant proportions. It is typically from 1900s-1910s and has got a very warm patina . Its orange color is very deep and beautiful.On each side, it features a very discreet embossed little crown . Its interior still has got its original Louis Vuitton label as well as its serial number (partly erased). There are little stains inside as shown on photos but it is all original, more than 100 years old it is easily understandable. But generally speaking, It is clean and fresh, no smell and it can be used for storage. Underneath, it still has its original orange canvas and its wood slats . Thanks to its custom made removable wood stand, it would be a perfect coffee table or blanket box. Please note that the height of this trunk by itself, without its removable wooden stand is only 34 cm tall. So , including its stand, its height goes from 34 cm to 49 cm.
Underneath, it is original zinc bottom to protect from humidity during long travels. Its interior is complete with its original quilted lid, its Louis Vuitton label and its serial number. It shows little stains but we have to keep in mind that it is more than 120 years old ,so it is understandable. Nevertheless, generally speaking ,it is clean and fresh, no smell. It could be used for storage or as a coffee table or a blanket trunk. Also, it still has got its gorgeous removable tray with all its compartments inside. Without its wooden stand,its height is 33 cm and with its stand it becomes 50 cm tall
