19th Century French Cigar Box With a Bronze Dog In A Dog House

This very unusual French cigar box features a golden bronze dog wearing glasses on his head guarding his master’s cigars.It stands at the window of his dog house and above, we can read ” ‘parlez au portier” which means, speak to the doorman.

The front of this house is decorated with gilt bronze trailing vine, a match holder in the shape of a brass bucket as well as a broom.Its doormat is a brass match striker plate.The little walnut house with spring release top opens by pulling a string. When its roof lifts, it displays an inside fittings to store 16 cigars.Its interior is complete and all original.
The base has a gilt brass beaded accent all around.

Aside from being a storage container for cigars, this very elegant and rare cigar cave could be repurposed for decorative purposes, used in crafting projects or to start a collection . Indeed, antique cigar boxes are often collected by enthusiasts for their craftsmanship, design, and nostalgia.
